the month of love

Ahhh! LOVE that most wanted but at times elusive quality that we all seek. Many have found it; some are still searching. February is loaded with symbols like hearts, cherubs, and moon and spoon. 

It’s a time when everyone wants to be remembered as a loved one, and it’s a time when we wish our loved ones a Happy Valentine’s Day.

Unfortunately, we have allowed this beautiful tradition to be captured by commerce. It is skewed by big boxes of chocolates, sprays of flowers and frilly lingerie, and romantic dinners out.

We all like that in some form, but it takes away the true meaning of love. Selflessness, empathy, taking care of the less fortunate are the acts of love that are lasting and that make us better as givers. 

The old saying, “It is better to give than receive,” is so true. When we receive, we are grateful. When we give, we feel fulfilled and closer to our purpose on earth, which is "Love Thy Neighbor."
